A wafer brush can fit the core and still fail the job. Incorrect material balance, inconsistent ring compression, or a mismatched profile can cause poor pickup, rapid wear, and unnecessary sweeper downtime. 6 38 x 24″ wire and poly convoluted wafer brushes are specified for demanding work where a mixed filament package must combine cutting action with controlled surface contact.

For procurement teams and OEM buyers, the key is not simply ordering a mixed wire-and-poly brush. The brush must match the machine’s core, the operating surface, debris type, expected wear rate, and required packing format. Convoluted rings also need consistent formed geometry so they stack and engage correctly in the brush assembly.

What the 6 38 x 24 Brush Specification Requires

Dimension shorthand can vary by equipment brand, distributor catalog, and regional buying practice. Before production, confirm exactly what 6, 38, and 24 refer to in the requested configuration. They may identify ring dimensions, brush width, core-related measurements, or an established OEM part reference.

A complete purchase specification should identify the required inner diameter, outer diameter, ring profile, finished ring thickness, and direction or form of the convolution. It should also state whether the brush is installed as a single ring, a packed set, or part of a larger wafer-brush section.

For replacement brush orders, a sample or technical drawing is the fastest way to eliminate dimensional uncertainty. For OEM programs, approved drawings and retained production samples help keep later batches consistent. This matters because small variation in the center opening or formed profile can affect fit, stack pressure, and brush performance.

Why Use Wire and Poly Filaments Together?

Mixed wafer brushes use crimped steel wire and polypropylene filaments in the same ring. Steel wire provides more aggressive action against compacted dirt, road grit, milling residue, coal dust buildup, and other stubborn debris. Polypropylene adds flexibility and helps maintain broad contact across uneven surfaces.

The material mix is a practical compromise. An all-wire brush can be the right choice for severe debris removal, but it may be too aggressive for some surfaces or operating conditions. An all-poly brush is lighter and less abrasive, yet it may not cut through packed material as effectively. A wire-and-poly configuration gives many road maintenance and industrial sweeping operations a useful middle ground.

The correct wire-to-poly ratio depends on the application. Higher wire content favors attack and debris breakup. Higher polypropylene content favors flexibility, coverage, and a less aggressive sweep. Filament diameter, crimp pattern, fill density, and exposed trim also affect the final result. Buyers should not assume two mixed brushes perform the same just because both are described as wire and poly.

Convoluted Rings Need Controlled Forming

A convoluted wafer brush has a formed, contoured ring profile rather than a basic flat shape. The profile supports the way rings nest, compress, and work on the sweeper assembly. It can improve brush engagement and help maintain useful sweeping contact as the brush wears.

Forming quality is especially important with mixed filaments. If the material is not evenly fed and fused before pressing, the ring can show uneven density, poor balance, or weak areas. In service, those defects may lead to irregular wear and reduced cleaning consistency.

Sweeplastic manufactures only wafer brushes and uses in-house automated equipment to feed material, fuse it, cut it, hydraulically press the ring, and inspect the finished product. That process is designed for repeatable dimensions and material distribution across production runs. For fleet buyers, consistency between cartons matters as much as the performance of the first brush installed.

Match the Brush to the Sweeping Environment

Mixed convoluted brushes are commonly considered for road construction cleanup, municipal street maintenance, airport surface cleaning, snow-related debris removal, and coal-site operations. However, application labels alone are not enough to select the right brush.

Consider the surface and debris together. Fresh milling fines, wet soil, aggregate, leaves, abrasive sand, and dry coal residue place different demands on filaments. Operating speed, down pressure, moisture, and sweep frequency also change the wear pattern. A wire-heavy mix that works well on a rough construction route may be unnecessarily aggressive for a facility with more sensitive pavement.

Color can also be specified when fleet identification, OEM appearance, or product-line consistency matters. Polypropylene can be produced to a requested RAL reference, subject to material and production requirements. Packing should be confirmed at the same time, including carton count, pallet arrangement, labeling, and any distributor-ready presentation.

Details to Confirm Before Requesting a Quote

A quote can move quickly when the technical information is complete. Provide the 6 38 x 24 reference along with the machine model or original part number, then confirm the ring’s actual dimensions and convoluted profile. State the desired wire-and-poly construction, polypropylene color, order quantity, and packaging requirements.

If the brush will replace an existing part, photographs of the ring face, center opening, side profile, and installed brush assembly are useful. If performance is the concern, describe the debris, surface, and failure mode of the current brush. Excessive wire wear, poor pickup, ring deformation, and premature filament loss point to different specification adjustments.

For a new OEM or distributor program, request a sample before committing to volume production. Once the fit, profile, and material balance are approved, the same specification can be produced for scheduled replacement demand or customized commercial orders.
